Kitchen Remodeling in Naperville

The builder kitchens that came with Naperville's growth years are now the most remodeled rooms in the city, and the common complaints are the same ones.

The same three problems, over and over

Across hundreds of Naperville houses the complaints barely vary. The island is too narrow to work at and too wide to walk around. There is a desk nook nobody has used since laptops got small. And the wall between the kitchen and the family room means whoever is cooking is separated from everyone else. Those are layout problems, and new cabinet doors do not fix any of them.

The good news is that the housing stock takes well to change. The framing is predictable, the mechanicals are usually accessible from the basement, and there is generally more floor area to work with than the original layout used. Most of what we do here is rearranging space that already exists rather than adding any.

Measure before you dream

We will tell you what the room can take: island size, walkway clearances, whether the wall can go. Those numbers make selections much easier.

Kitchen Remodeling

Islands, clearances and the stuff that decides how a kitchen feels

A kitchen works or does not work on dimensions most people never think about. Forty-two inches of clear aisle where two people pass. An island deep enough to seat people without their knees in the cabinet. A refrigerator door that can open fully without hitting the wall. Getting those right matters more than any finish decision, and they are fixed on the day the layout is set.

  • Aisle and island clearances checked against how you actually cook
  • Bearing walls engineered where the kitchen opens to the family room
  • Cabinetry ordered to the room's measurements, not to a stock plan

Questions

Asked in Naperville

Something not answered here? Call (847) 380-8212 and ask us directly.

Can the wall between my kitchen and family room come out?

Usually, and what it costs depends on what the wall is doing. If it is bearing you need a beam and a load path to the footing, which is normal work. We look inside the wall before quoting so the number holds.

How long does a Naperville kitchen take start to finish?

Six to ten weeks for a full gut once cabinetry arrives. The cabinets themselves can take eight to twelve weeks to build, so we order early and time demolition to the delivery rather than starting and then waiting.

Is it worth moving the sink to the island?

Sometimes. It frees the perimeter run and it puts the plumbing in the middle of the floor, which is easier over a basement than over a slab. It also means the island loses storage to the plumbing. We will lay out both versions before you decide.
